THE ABSOLUTE BEGINNER SALSERO This 9 week introductory series covers your salsa basics: footwork, frame and connection–the basis of leading and following LA Style Salsa (“On 1”), a turn and the cross body lead. By the end of this series, you’ll have some solid salsa tools down pat to bring to the social dance floor.NO EXPERIENCE NECESSARY, NO PARTNER REQUIRED.
Dates: Wednesdays, October 3, 10, 17, 24, 31, Nov 7, 21, 28, Dec 5 2. SALSA LEVEL 1 This 9 week series builds on the technical framework of LA Style Salsa (“On 1”) that was introduced in the Absolute Beginner Series. With continued emphasis on strong frame and partner connection, as well as footwork and timing, this class will also expand upon the basic building block of club style salsa, the cross body lead, to give you a more extensive vocabulary of well-executed moves to take to the social dance floor. PRE-REQUISITE: Absolute Beginner Salsero Series AND/OR knowledge of Cross Body Lead Dates: Wednesdays, October 3, 10, 17, 24, 31, Nov 7, 21, 28, Dec 5 3. SALSA LEVEL 2 This 9 week series is for those with some experience dancing LA Style Salsa (“On 1”) who are looking to build upon the technical skillset they have already acquired. From a solid frame and partner connection and increased kinesthetic awareness, more intricate moves and patterns will be explored and mapped on to songs of varying tempo to further enhance leading/following and timing skills. PRE-REQUISITE: Knowledge of Cross Body Lead Inside Turn AND at least one year’s experience salsa dancing (or by permission of instructor) Dates: Wednesdays, October 3, 10, 17, 24, 31, Nov 7, 21, 28, Dec 5 **ALL CLASSES WILL BE HELD IN THE MMAP GALLERY AT THE ARTS AND CULTURE CENTRE** A bit about us: Corie is a multi-disciplinary artist who has trained in improvisation comedy, physical theatre, as well as a smorgasbord of danceforms. Her movement quality is chiefly informed by the polyrhythmic dances of the African diaspora and she has choreographed and performed salsa and latin-fusion pieces for audiences in St. John’s, Toronto, Montreal and New York. |
