Practica: A practice session for Tango Dancers

This week practica will be at the regular times and places :Thurs. Nov.8, 8:30 – 10:30 3rd floor gallery,  Sun. Nov. 11, 7 – 9  MMaP room.
 
Regular time but Change of location for Practica :  8:30 pm Thurs. Nov. 15 practica will be at a private home, email  Cecilia at ceciliamcgruer@live.ca for the address; and 7 pm Sunday Nov. 18th practica is at Bally Haly Golf Course. (Cash bar is available). The change of venue is necessary because the Christmas Craft fair is being held at the Arts and Culture Centre.  We will resume meeting at our regular time and place the following week.

UPCOMING EVENTS
 
On Thursday, November 8, MMaP offers a lecture and launch! At 6:00 pm they are thrilled to launch Bellows & Bows: Historic Recordings of Traditional Fiddle and Accordion Music from Across Canada, a double CD/book that is the latest release in the Back on Track series. At 7:30pm, they are pleased that Sherry Johnson (York University) will be giving the second lecture in this year’s Music, Media and Culture lecture series. Dr. Johnson will be presenting her talk, “‘Dancing from the Heart’: Interpreting Music in Ottawa Valley Step Dancing.” Both events are free and all are welcome! There is time to take these in and still make it to practica at 8:30 pm in the third floor Gallery upstairs from the Mmap room.
Mun Ballroom and Latin Dance Club Formal dinner and dance Friday, November 16, 2012 at the Pleasantville Legion.  I’ve just heard today is the deadline to order tickets,which can be purchased at any of the classes! $25 for members and $35 for non members! If you can’t make it to class,email them at bldc@mun.ca to reserve a ticket.

Argentine Tango Workshop with Amira Campora

An energetic and passionate teacher, straight from Buenos Aires, Amira Campora has done several worldwide tours, including two previous visits to Central and Eastern Canada. This fall, we are excited to announce her visit to Tango on the Edge!

Amira will be teaching a series of tango classes during the weekend of October 5th-7th, 2012. All sessions to be held at the Arts and Culture Centre.

Thursday, October 4th
8pm – Amira joins us at our regular Thursday practica (starting early for more dancing!)

Friday, October 5th
7pm – Class Registration
7:30pm – Session 1 – Core Essentials (all levels)

Saturday, October 6th
10am – Session 2 – Change of direction; Turns and Counterturns (all levels)
1pm – Session 3 – Maximizing movement in a small space without compromising your dance (all levels)
3pm- Session 4 – Expression with the free leg; Boleos (intermediate/advanced)
7pm – Evening Milonga (a tango social dance party)

Sunday October 7th
1:30pm – Session 5 – Displacement – the power of the triangle; Sacadas (intermediate/advanced)
3:30pm – Session 6 – Rhythmic Vals Turns (intermediate/advanced)

We will endeavour to give prompt notice of any changes to this schedule to all participants.

Pricing:
Sessions 1 and 2: $50.
Any 4 Sessions: $100.
All inclusive: $125.
Student Discount; half price

July 2012 update – Tango on the Edge Practicas & Socials for Dancers

TANGO ON THE EDGE PRACTICA NOTICE
    Practica: A practice session for Tango Dancers
    Thursday practica: Arts and Culture Centre 3rd Floor Mezzanine Gallery 8:30 – 10:30pm.      
    Sunday Practica will take place at the Mmap Room,  Arts and Culture Centre  7 – 9 pm. focus: milonga moves and rhythms.
***NOTE CHANGE OF SCHEDULE: ***Due to an overabundance of weddings booked at the Battery hotel, we have had to cancel our dinner and dancing for July and August. This Friday, July 6 we will meet at the small plaza at the corner of Prescott and Duckworth at 7 pm for an impromptu evening Tango, then pop in to the Bamboo Gardens for Chinese food afterwards. Bamboo Gardens is at 252 Duckworth St. directly opposite the Tim Horton’s ; very close to the plaza where we will dance.

TOTE MEMBERS: Watch for upcoming details of a House Milonga to be hosted in August, as well as our kayak and Tango in Cape Broyle.

Middle Cove Bonfire and Weiner Roast Friday, July 20.  Meet at Motion Lookout above the beach at 8 pm for Tango til Sunset. Then, meet by the bonfire @ 9 pm.  Bring your instruments and campfire songs, and your own beverage of choice.  We’ll provide hot dogs and marshmallows for roasting.  Alternate night Saturday, July 21. Drop Cecilia an email secretary@tangoontheedge.ca if you plan to come, so we’ll have enough hot dogs! If you need a lift, contact Don, Christine or Cecilia.

    We will meet Thursday evenings at the 3rd floor Gallery in the Arts and Culture Centre, 8:30 – 10:30 pm
   Sunday Practica will take place at the Mmap Room, Arts and Culture Centre  7 – 9 pm. Our focus at our guided practice is the foundation of colgadas. Watch this demonstration:
